SAINT JOSEPH HIGH SCHOOL
and
THE PENNSYLVANIA EDUCATIONAL IMPROVEMENT TAX CREDIT (EITC)

How your business can build on a tradition
of excellence for children of the A-K Valley

EITC: Your Questions Answered

What is the Educational Improvement Tax Credit (EITC)?
These tax credits are awarded to eligible businesses contributing to a scholarship organization, an educational improvement organization and/or a pre-kindergarten scholarship organization.

What Taxes must my company pay to be eligible for this program?

Corporate Net Income Tax
Capital Stock Franchise Tax

Bank and Trust Company Shares Tax
Title Insurance Company Shares Tax
Insurance Premiums Tax
Mutual Thrift Institution Tax
Personal Income Tax Liability Tax (NEW)

How do Saint Joseph High School Students Benefit from Your Company's Support?
While the cost of independent education is rising, Saint Joseph High School is striving to maintain the affordability of Catholic education and the wonderful opportunities it brings to our students. When you designate your EITC contribution for Saint Joseph High School, your money is directly awarded to qualifying students in the form of financial aid to cover the cost of tuition.

How Does it Work?
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania awards your business tax credits for making a contribution to Saint Joseph High School. In other words, you can get a tax credit of up to $300,000 on your PA corporate tax liability.

A tax credit equal to 75% of the total contribution may be granted to a business providing proof of a donation during one taxable year. A tax credit equal to 90% of the total contribution may be granted if the business provides a written commitment to contribute the same amount for two consecutive years. In most cases, claiming both a PA State tax credit and Federal tax deduction could mean that your donation would result in a 100% tax savings for your business for the amount donated. The credit cannot exceed $300,000 per business annually and must be applied in the taxable year the contribution is made.

What does this mean dollar for dollar?
You get a unique opportunity to designate where your tax dollars go, you qualify for state tax credits and you can also claim a charitable contribution for your business.

What do I need to do to apply?
All you need to do is work with your accounting professional to determine whether your business is eligible and file your one-page application. A limited number of tax credits are available each year. Contact the Saint Joseph High School Development Office, Laura Burkett, at 724-224-3127 with any questions.

Is there a lot of paperwork involved?
No. The application is one page. You can download the application and EITC program guidelines at www.inventpa.com. Go to "EITC" under "Funding & Program Finder".

When is the deadline for application?
The PA Department of Community Economic Development begins processing applications on July 1, 2008. But remember, tax credits are awarded on a first come, first served basis.

How important is the timing of my application?
Applications for businesses that are first time applicants will not be accepted before July 1. Any applications received before July 1 will be disqualified and the applicants will not be informed of the disqualification.

We urge all businesses applying for EITC to fax their applications to the Pennsylvania Department of Community Economic Development at 717-772-3581 or tknorr@state.pa.us on July 1 or email the Saint Joseph High School Development Office at lburkett@salsgiver.com. Education Improvement Tax Credits are usually exhausted by the end of August.  In some years, the credits lasted only through the first week of July.

Do I have to re-apply each year?
Applications for businesses that are applying for a second year of tax credits should be faxed no earlier than May 15. Applications for renewal will be processed first. We urge all businesses re-applying for EITC to fax their applications to: 717-772-3581 or tknorr@state.pa.us on May 15.

What happens once my business is approved?
You will have 60 days to make your contribution to the Scholastic Opportunity Scholarship Fund with a designation for Saint Joseph High School. Mail your check to Saint Joseph High School. We then submit proof of your contribution to you for submittal to the Department of Economic Development. Your tax credit is effective the first day of the taxable year in which the contribution was made.

Amanda Marie Moser Scholarship Fund

Amanda Marie Moser

In response to the untimely passing of Saint Joseph High School Senior, Amanda Moser, in an auto accident on Thursday December 20, 2007, Saint Joseph High School has established the Amanda Marie Moser Scholarship Fund to honor and remember her.

Amanda and her infectious smile will be missed by her Saint Joseph High School Family.
During her three and a half years at SJHS, Amanda touched the lives of everyone.  She was involved with the English festival, the drama department technical staff, the staff leadership program and the pro-life group. She was a National History Day winner. Amanda was filled with school spirit.  She was involved in many activities and present at all sporting events.  She was a cheerleader and enjoyed tennis, softball and gymnastics. Amanda wanted to be a nurse and was accepted to Gannon University.  It is hoped that this scholarship fund will be a living tribute to Amanda through the smiles of her scholarship recipients.

* Donations should be payable to Saint Joseph High School, 800 Montana Ave. Natrona Heights PA  15065 and noted The Amanda Marie Moser Scholarship Fund.
Memorial gifts may also be made to the building fund in Amanda's honor.
